ABA & Speech Therapy Collaboration
Welcome to 49 Main Street West Grimsby
Are you interested in ABA/Speech Therapy Collaboration?
At our Grimsby location we offer speech language therapy sessions within your child’s scheduled ABA therapy sessions.
The collaboration between ABA and Speech therapy is vital to ensuring success of the learner. BCBAs and SLP’s are instrumental members of treatment teams who share a similar end goal of increasing expressive and receptive communication skills, aiding in independence, safety, and quality of life. BCBAs and SLPs each bring forth professional training, knowledge, and experience that when combined can aid in greater skill development and success.
Prevents unnecessary replication or conflicting interventions or treatments
Promotes high quality comprehensive service delivery
Less travel time between service providers = less time your child is required to be taken out of school or extracurriculars
Team meetings with your SLP and BCBA can be scheduled to make the most of your time at the centre instead of arranging multiple meetings with different service providers
You will no longer need to be the middleman between service providers
Allows for consultation between professionals to ensure the most effective therapy is in place
Increases the number of learning opportunities that your child receives
Service Options
Option 1:
1:1 ABA Therapy + Speech Sessions
After completing you ABA assessment your BCBA will recommend the number of weekly hours your child should receive. Your Speech Language Pathologist from Empower Communication Services will join your child’s ABA session for either 30 minutes or 45 minutes and provide direct speech language therapy with the support of your ABA therapist. Your ABA therapist will be there to help arrange the environment, provide reinforcement, aid in behaviour reduction, and use behavioural supports.
Speech sessions can be added to your ABA sessions weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly depending on the need of your child and the recommendations of your Speech Language Pathologist.
In collaboration with your Speech Language Pathologist, your BCBA will make programs to target the areas of speech and language your child requires. Your ABA therapist will continue to practice these skills with your child during the ABA sessions until your next speech therapy session. Like all ABA programs data collection will occur to ensure progress is being made.
Option 1:
1:1 Therapy + Speech Sessions
Benefits:
Your BCBA and SLP will work closely together to create programs that target speech and language goals and utilize the principles of applied behaviour analysis
Collaboration of service providers will increase consistency resulting in greater likelihood of success and learning new skills
Your ABA sessions will involve strategies and goals from your SLP allowing for more exposure and practice then regular weekly or bi-weekly speech language therapy visits
Data is taken on all programs to ensure adequate progress is being made
Option 2:
Parent Mediated ABA + Speech Therapy
This option includes one weekly session that is two hours in length. One hour will be parent-mediated ABA therapy and the other hour will be parent-mediated Speech and Language Therapy. The session will consist of caregiver coaching using behaviour skills training (an evidenced based strategy) and home assignments to ensure the learner is provided adequate practice to learn the targeted skill(s).
Option 2:
Parent Mediated ABA + Speech Therapy
