Healthcare Confidence Program 🩺
Visiting the doctor, dentist, hair salon or other healthcare visits can feel overwhelming for many children — but it doesn’t have to be. Our Healthcare Confidence Program helps children build the skills and confidence they need to navigate healthcare settings with comfort and ease.
At Social Connections ABA Therapy, we’ve created a simulated healthcare room, where children can practice and prepare in a safe, supportive environment. Through individualized sessions, we focus on teaching functional communication for self-advocacy, building regulation strategies to reduce anxiety, and always meeting each child where they are. By empowering children with the tools and confidence to succeed, we make healthcare experiences more positive — one step at a time.

Tailored one-on-one sessions designed to work with your child at their pace in a real-life simulated room set up as a Doctors Office, Dental Office or Hair Salon. We work on building comfort through a caring and supportive environment.

Program Highlights

Parent-Mediated Support: Parents and caregivers are an essential part of the process! You’ll stay for each session, actively participate, and learn strategies alongside your child.
Weekly Sessions: Sessions are held once per week and typically run 45 minutes, tailored to your child’s needs that day.
At-Home Practice: You’ll receive simple, practical homework each week to help reinforce skills and build your child’s confidence between sessions.
Pace That Fits Your Child: There’s no set timeline — every child progresses at their own pace. Some may need a few weeks just to feel ready to enter the room, while others may be ready to jump right in. We’ll meet your child where they are.
Individualized Supports: We create personalized tools for your child, including visual supports, social stories, token systems, and more — all designed to help them succeed.
Support Beyond the Centre: When your child is ready, and with your healthcare provider’s agreement, we can even join you to support your child during their first real healthcare visit.
What is this program designed to do?
This program helps children build confidence, comfort, and self-advocacy skills for healthcare-related visits like going to the doctor, dentist, or hairdresser. We meet each child where they are, help them practice in a safe, supportive setting, and give parents tools to support their progress.
How is this different from regular ABA therapy?
This program is highly specialized and designed specifically for healthcare routines. It combines direct therapy in a simulated environment with parent coaching, home practice, and even optional support at real appointments. It also incorporates feedback from real healthcare professionals to make the skills as practical and realistic as possible.
Why is parent participation required?
You are your child’s best advocate and teacher. By participating, you’ll learn how to support your child’s comfort and progress during visits at home and in real-world settings — not just at the centre. We want you to feel confident too!
